San Marcos is a hunter’s paradise due to its amazing brush and unique landscape. It’s home to giant whitetail deer, as well as plenty of ducks, quail and dove. It is not uncommon to see 200”+ bucks running around during the rut. There are 30 protein feeders that are kept full all year, as well as 9 solid tower blinds located in strategic areas for hunting. A unique feature is the 1,630 acres of “lagunetas”, which are big open fields of native grass where deer and cattle absolutely love to graze year round.
LOCATION
San Marcos is located just 28 miles south of the Texas border, right in the heart of the Golden Triangle, which is considered one of the best areas in the world for trophy whitetail deer. It is approximately a 2 1/2 hour drive from the city of Eagle Pass, TX or 3 1/2 hours from Laredo, TX.
PROPERTY
San Marcos is one of the top whitetail ranches in México. Its unique habitat has been meticulously managed since 2014, with the goal of establishing an outstanding deer population. This ranch consistently produces giant bucks each year. There have been a total of 20 bucks harvested over 190” in a ten-year period. Of those 20 bucks, 13 broke the 200” socre.
The ranch is high fenced around the 19 mile perimeter. Something unique about this ranch is the 1,630 acres of native “lagunetas” (wetlands), which the deer and cattle love and that greatly help them stay fat and healthy. “Everything is fatter and bigger at San Marcos” is something the owners often find themselves saying. There are also 30 protein and cottonseed feeders throughout the ranch, that are kept full year-round.
The house is simple, yet beautiful. It has 4 bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom, plus a guest bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room, gun room, and laundry room. There are also 2 storage buildings, a service room with a full bathroom, and 2 well-equipped cowboy houses.
HUNTING
The consistency of trophy buck production at San Marcos has been nothing short of remarkable. With very low hunting pressure, only the oldest, most mature bucks are harvested - giving younger deer the opportunity to grow and reach their full genetic potential. Since the ranch was acquired in 2014, 13 harvested bucks have scored over 200 inches. A testament to the power of age, nutrition, and genetics.
WATER
San Marcos has 24 ponds/lakes that hold good water throughout the year. Becuase of the ranch’s contour, water runs very well when it rains. It also features the “Arroyo Camarón,” which feeds the famous “Tanque México”, a body of water that covers around 40 acres when full and is home to thousands of ducks and various species of fish. The ranch also has 30 water troughs distributed throughout the property, all supplied by a fresh water well.
A massive 500,000-liter storage tank supplies water to the house.
CATTLE
San Marcos currently holds around 300 head of excellent quality Red Angus cattle. All males calves are exported to the US every year, as are some heifers. There are plenty of horses to work the cattle on the big pastures, as well as cattle corrals.
